Tale that is Told
Psalms 90:9-17 The Bible talks about "...we spend our years as a tale that is told...." "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom..." "...that we may rejoice and be glad all our days."
After having my car accident, I think more eternally than I've ever done before. I've asked God to forgive me for being so stupid to have not thought that way before. I quickly realized that my life could have been gone in a snap. I had no warning. I had no time to prepare. I had no way to prevent or change the event. At 55 mph, I didn't have time to move my foot off of the accelerator. I hit that pick up truck crossing in front of me, full speed. I can not discribe the loud noise. The explosion and then silence. I fought to live, to see, to wonder what was happening.
What kind of tale has my life been? As I grow older and as I experience life's hardships and trails, what do my own children see? Would those closest to me remember - love, faithfulness, joy, kindness, excitment in my life?
The Bible says our lives are but a vapor. We may only have today. Today I need to use for eternity. Today I need to reach and touch the heart of my children. Today I must show kindness to others. Today is my day. Today is your day.
My daughter has talked with me, on different occasions, about making a life, her life, our life, count. She read a book about living our lives for Christ in a way that would make a good story. One that others would want to read. And get something out of the reading. What if our life story was to be put into a movie. Would people want to come to see it? Would they enjoy the movie? Would they watch it again? Would they come away from the story different? Or worse would my life story be something I wouldn't want others to see or to know about?
David wrote here in Psalms that our life is here but for a brief moment. IF we live threescore and ten...what would we have done with Jesus? When we realize that life is short it should help us to manage our time, our life more wisely and for eternal good. What do I want to see happen in my life before I die? What can I do today inorder for that story to begin? What kind of tale has my life been? As I grow older and as I experience life's hardships and trails, what do my own children see? Would those closest to me remember - love, faithfulness, joy, kindness, excitment in my life?

Psalms 90:17 "And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."
My brothers and sisters in Christ, my children, my friends and family, make what your hands do today count for eternity.

My Trash
A four year old boy once said, "Father forgive us of our trash baskets. And help us forgive those who puts trash in our baskets."
Children can make more sense out of life then most adults I know. (Including myself) Life is sometimes hard. And the people in our lives can make our journey more difficult. I once heard a lady speaker say, "I would be nice if she would let me!"
It's always easier to point to others. To blame them for why I am grumpy today. To blame my own family for why I snapped back. To blame the lack of sleep, sickness, stress, and just because. The truth really is .... I am sometimes not so nice, because I choose to not be. When I, even for just a moment, live my day for myself. When I try to handle events by myself.
The scripture, "I can DO ALL things..." doesn't mean that I am wonder woman. Tho I've tried to be. It doesn't mean I've arrived in my spiritual walk. I have to go back to the scripture and finish reading it. "I can do all things ...THROUGH CHRIST who strengthens me." Phil 4:13
God please forgive me when I travel my life journey without You not for just the day. But I need You for the moment. And for every moment that I breath.

Pondering...
Whenever I am asked to give a short devotion for a baby shower, I always refer to Luke 2:19, "But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart." (Pondering: to think or consider especially quietly, soberly, and deeply) Every new mom has sat in the corner while listening to friends and family chatter about the newborn baby. Those new moms are "pondering" the information they are hearing about their sweet new baby.
I have 5 children. The oldest is 27 and the youngest 10 years old. After December 25, 2009 I can attest that you don't have to be a new mom to ponder information about your children. This Christmas was the best Christmas I think our family has celebrated in many years. What made it the best? I know it wasn't the amount of money spent on gifts. I also know it wasn't the over abundance of gifts. It wasn't just because there was a lot of people in the house. (Even though there was 19 people.)
What made it the best was the connection. There was a positive connection between sibblings and between children and parents. The greatest connection was between family and God. How God took broken lives and made them whole. We give God the glory and honor for bringing our family back together. No greater gift did I receive than to have my children to come up to me and put their arms around me and say, "thank you" and "I love you". Without any expectations or pressure, when my adult children left their seat to come and show their parents their love and gratitude.
It's been many years since our oldest son spent Christmas with all the family. What a blessing it was when he sat on the same ottoman with me and put his arm around me and he asked, "How are ya Mom?" Tears flow down my cheeks just to type this pondered moment. If I could freeze time, I would have chosen that moment. My sweet boy wasn't looking for a hurried answer. He was genuinely concerned.
Having my son in-law get up and give me a hug and express sincere good wishes was a blessing. For our oldest daughter to suggest that we shake up our family tradition a little. Brilliant idea. To find the missing 2 year old in the bathroom brushing his teeth using his Papaw's toothbrush was priceless. Hearing our 20 month old grand daughter say "Hi" at least a million times was precious.
God is so good. I know God loves my children more than I love them. His way is always the best. My husband and I have been praying for our oldest son. Since early fall we even prayed for God to have a good woman where he works to catch his eye. Christmas Day he introduced his new girlfriend. Where did they meet? When did she start working there? You guessed it. She works in the same company and started working there in September. Oh my, only God moves and puts people in the right place at the right time for the right reasons.
When was your last pondering moment? Write it down. Keep it close. Never forget. Ponder often.
